Bring in your bank statement

Your bank’s website already offers a statement file for every account you hold. That file is the way your bank comes into your books.

Direct answer

Local Accountant reads the statement file and nothing else. It never logs in to your bank, and no connection to your bank exists.

Get the file

Sign in to your bank’s website, open the account and download the statement or the transactions for the month. A CSV export is the usual choice. A credit card has its own file, downloaded the same way.

Bring it in

Each line arrives with an account proposed for it. A payee you have filed before is proposed the way you filed it last time. You decide every line before it posts.

Reconcile the account

Once every line is decided, the account in your books is reconciled against the statement, so the two agree to the cent before the month can close.

FAQs

Do I give the app my bank login?

No. You sign in on your bank’s own website and download the file there; the app never sees your login.

Can I bring in a credit card?

Yes. A card account is kept the way a bank account is, from the card’s own statement file.
