Using an AI with Local Accountant

Local Accountant runs complete without an AI. If you want one, you connect it yourself: a model on your own computer, or a cloud provider you sign up with.

Direct answer

An AI you connect can propose and draft. It works through the same approvals and the same record you do, and every entry still waits for you.

How it connects

The app has an agent door that speaks MCP, the Model Context Protocol. It is off until you switch it on, and one AI connects at a time.

An AI on your own computer

A model that runs on your computer keeps its work on your computer too. Nothing about your books has to go anywhere for it to help.

A cloud AI provider

A cloud AI is one you choose, sign up for and connect yourself. Whatever you let it read goes to that provider, so read its terms before you connect it.

What it cannot do

It cannot post an entry on its own, and it cannot change a month that is closed.

FAQs

Do I need an AI at all?

No. Everything Local Accountant does works without one.

Which AI should I use?

That is up to you. No model comes with the app, and the one you connect is the one you picked.
